About Us
The Board of Trustees of the MacJannet Foundation works with Tufts University in sustaining the educational, cultural and international outreach of a 1000 year old Prieure located on Lake Annecy in the French alps. Core programs include scholarship support for some of the 90 college students who live with French host families and attend courses at Le Prieure each summer; exchange scholarships for college students from Geneva and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy; scholarships for students from the Annecy area to attend a summer English language program at Tufts University; an English language teaching program for elementary school children at the Talloires school; and financial support for a music and Erythmics center in Annecy. Foundation Board members have been a prime force in leveraging the elysian magnificence of the setting for significant international conferences and seminars including The Talloires Declaration: University Presidents for a Sustainable Future. In developing events, seminars, and educational programs that take place at Le Prieure, the Foundation accesses a community of international citizens drawn from its constituencies:
1. Former campers, puplis and teachers from the MacJannet Schools in Paris and the MacJannet camps in Angon, near Talloires.
2. MacJannet Fellows that have participated in the student exchange program between the Flectcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the International Institute of Higher Studies in Geneva Switzerland.
3. MacJannet friends and relatives of Donald and Charlotte MacJannet from Geneva, Talloires, Annecy and around the world.
4. MacJannet Scholars that have attended the summer program at the Prieure in Talloires, organized by Tufts University.
5. New friends that would like to support our mission.
The Foundation continues the life work of Donald and Charlotte MacJannet, proprietors of independent schools in Paris from 1929-1941 and summer camps on Lake Annecy from 1929 to 1965. Notable among the distinguised alumni were Indira Ghandi, Prime Minister of India. Potter Stewart, United States Supreme Court Justice and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. After the MacJannets closed their summer camps they started a new project of restoring the former Prieure of an 11th century monastery at Talloires and hosting a summer long open house at the Prieure for former campers, counselors, teachers and new friends who started the MacJannet Foundation in 1978 to continue the MacJannets' work.
The MacJannet Foundation is a non-profit charitable (IRC 501(c)(3))organization established in 1968 for the benefit of humankind.
