Our MacJannet community... and yours

Donald and Charlotte MacJannet touched thousands of lives through their innovative institutions:

  • Their American school outside of Paris (1923-39).
  • Their summer camp on the shores of Lake Annecy in the French Alps (1924-1963).
  • Their promotion of student cultural exchanges between Europe and the U.S. (since 1966).
  • Their renovation of the 1,000-year old Priory in Talloires, France, which they donated to serve as the Tufts University European Center since 1978.
  • The MacJannet Foundation itself, which has promoted their ideals since 1968.

Below you’ll find a sampling of photos of the MacJannets and their many friends— past and present, near and far— over the past century.  Do you have a photo or memory you'd like to add?   Contact us and tell us your story, we would love to hear from you!

As this postcard attests, what is now the center of Talloires was then reserved for a vineyard, as were the hillsides in the foreground.

A magical childhood in an awesome setting, with a real-life Mr. Chips: On a camp trip in 1928, Howard Cook (wearing tie), age about 13, stands on the lip of the rear window.
Ascending the Tournette: ‘I learned that I’m more athletic than I thought.’
‘In these surroundings, you can’t be in a bad mood.’
